Pumping out your grease trap should always be a fixed and regular thing to do so that FOG overflow can be avoided and that the grease trap could last for years. Food establishments are told to have their grease traps pumped out at least four times annually. But because of the lawsuits and fines, many of them just have their traps pumped out weekly. It may be expensive but at the very least, they are assured that their company is free of hassle.
Using enzymes to prevent the buildup of grease should not be done frequently. Like chemicals, enzymes only emulsify the grease that accumulates in the grease trap. It appears that the grease may be immediately dissolved but in truth, it only joins the wastewater much faster. Within the sewers, the emulsified grease cools down and solidifies. It sticks to the inner walls of the pipes until eventually it blocks the normal pathway of the effluent towards the wastewater treatment plant. The effluent backs up into the establishment and this causes a lot of environmental and health issues. Enzymes and chemicals should not be used to prevent grease buildup. They only mimic a FOG overflow and this wastes a lot of time and resources.
Using bacteria would be much more beneficial to the grease trap system. These are living microorganisms that voraciously eat grease to support their minute systems. They consume everything and convert the harmful contaminants and FOG into less detrimental forms. They free the effluent from any solid grease particle that would interrupt with the wastewater treatment process. They even leave the grease trap odorless. There is also no need to fear that the surrounding environment may be polluted because bacteria have no chemical discharges that will pollute it. If you use bacteria to maintain your grease trap, you will be assured that there will be no lawsuits and hefty fines to face anymore. Only a fully-functional, smooth-running grease trap system.
